What does your baby look like when you're 6 weeks pregnant?

Great question. Let's talk about your newest little miracle! Odds are, you have just found out that you are expecting. (You might not even be having any pregnancy symptoms yet, which is totally normal.) Congratulations, Momma! This is a super exciting time, and one that you may have been hoping would happen for a while. I am so happy for you! Motherhood is going to be amazing!
So at 6 weeks pregnant, your baby is super tiny- only a 2-3 millimeters long! The baby is about the size of a grain of rice. (We call the baby at this stage a "Fetal Pole," because it literally looks like a very tiny pole.) On the belly ultrasound, if you look closely, you will be able to see the little flickering of your baby's heartbeat. Can you believe that this little heart just started beating only a few days ago?!
You will also be able to see the baby's Yolk Sac. This little item supports your pregnancy until the placenta is formed. Both the Fetal Pole and the Yolk Sac will be surrounded by Amniotic Fluid, with all of this being located inside your uterus. Once the baby's placenta is formed, the Yolk Sac will slowly fade away. The Yolk Sac usually faded away by 19 weeks.
Your baby will grow very quickly over the next few weeks, almost doubling in size every week! Many mothers will experience some nausea and morning sickness through the next few weeks. For most mothers, this will pass when the 1st trimester is over. I know- it's rough. Just keep your focus on how great it's going to be once baby arrives!
Be sure to get plenty of rest when you are tired, and stay well hydrated. Now is also the time to call your OB/GYN doctor to get your first prenatal care appointment scheduled. It may be helpful to start keeping a pregnancy journal- jotting down just 2 or 3 sentences a day can help you keep track of things you might want to ask your doctor about.
